No, CDTA has not gotten into the virus spreading business, but they have just expanded their shuttle services called "ShuttleBug", "ShuttleFly" and "ShuttleBee".

These Shuttles are CDTA's answer to the transportation difficulties resulting from the increasing number of businesses moving to suburban areas. ShuttleBug serves businesses on Washington Avenue Extension and New Karner Road.   ShuttleFly serves businesses along Wolf Road and Albany Shaker Road (Near the Airport and CHP).  ShuttleBee serves businesses along the Route 4 Corridor in North Greenbush, between Rensselaer Technology Park and Eden Park.  The shuttles are designed to operate on a flexible schedule, similar to an airport shuttle, dropping customers off practically at the front door of their work sites.

ShuttleBug operates on weekdays from 6:30 am to 11:30 pm, connecting with CDTA's regular route buses at the Crossgates Mall Transit Center. ShuttleBug buses leave Crossgates every 15 minutes.  ShuttleBug leaves every 30 minutes from Wal-Mart and the intersection of New Karner Road (155) and Central Avenue. Shuttlebug provides 30 minute service on Saturdays, too, between 6:45 am and 10:45 pm.

ShuttleBee operates on weekdays from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, connecting with CDTA's regular route buses (Route 14 and 24) at the Defreestville Park and Ride Lot.   During the morning rush hours, ShuttleBee leaves the Defreestville Park and Ride Lot every 30 minutes, and during the afternoon rush hours (3:30-6:30) ShuttleBee leaves from HVCC on the north and Hannaford on the southend about every 30 minutes.  Midday service, between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm runs every hour.

ShuttleFly operates on weekdays from 5:45 am to 11:50 pm, connecting with CDTA's regular route buses (Routes 1, 2, 17 and 55) at Colonie Center.  During the morning rush hours, ShuttleFly leaves the Colonie Center every 15 minutes. Midday service, between 9:30 am and 2:15 pm runs every 25 minutes. During the afternoon rush hours (2:30-6:30) ShuttleFly leaves Colonie Center about every 15 minutes.  ShuttleFly operates on Saturdays leaving from Colonie Center every 25 minutes between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm.   ShuttleFly operates on Sundays too, leaving from Colonie Center every hour between 8:30 am and 5:50 pm.

The cash fare for each of the Shuttles is $1.00. Swiper customers can ride the shuttles for free.  If you have a CDTA Swiper Card, and miss the last shuttle, CDTA's Guaranteed Ride Home Program will get you home (some restrictions apply).

As the trend of businesses moving to suburban complexes continues, this totally different and progressive type of transit service may become more in demand by both employers and employees. The ShuttleBug, ShuttleBee and ShuttleFly are not only a great asset for CDTA, but also for the businesses and residents of the Capital District.  Call (518) 482-8822 for more information about the shuttle service, schedules and fares.
